Short Circuits Studies

Short Circuits are not to be underestimated in terms of the requirement for understanding the cause and impact on an electrical installation and consequently to the customer.

Short Circuit studies and their current charts demonstrate that the medium or low voltage switchgear has been sized correctly and that disconnection times are achieved to ensure safety of the electrical installation, during a fault.

These studies are commonly required in detail, when undertaking designs of medium voltage networks.  The associated British Standard is BS EN 60909: 2016 for Short Circuit Calculations

While a short circuit and earth fault current is commonly measured for small circuits, upstream distribution systems will require a more in depth consideration.   It is our service, which reviews, calculates and studies short circuits to ensure relays operate to protect life and people, while limiting the risk of unwanted loss of power to critical UPS and customer IT systems.
